VISION ultrasonic sensors use a small 44kHz transciever to create an ultrasonic field. Unlike Radar sensors, ultrasonic waves don't exit the vehicle so the sensor won't trigger when someone walks by your car. It also acts as an Audio sensor by detecting glass breakage but won't false trigger due to high pitched sounds. And it replaces Current sensors that detect door opening by watching the dome light. If a door is opened even 1 inch, the 318-04 will trigger due to the change in air pressure.

The 318-04M is the compact edition of the 318-04. The controller size is the same, but the transcievers are smaller to be less noticeable in some ultra-compact cars. The sensitivity is less than the 318-04, but such won't adversely affect performance small cars.
